Vision for Burma

On Friday morning, Thailand’s border police stormed the Shekinah (Glory to God) orphanage in Mae Hong Son Province near the Burma border, put the names of all the residents on a register and asked them to prepare for deportation, said a worried caretaker.

“If the children go back, they will be killed. This should never happen,” she cried out, adding that she had informed the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees about the possible move by the Thai government.

dam site and projected results

In 2005 the SPDC (State Peace and Development Council) started a dam construction project on the Shwe Gyin Chaung, a mile above ShweGyin town. The dam is projected to be completed in December 2010. Already over 1,000 people have been displaced and when completed, the dam will destroy large areas of the local people’s land and villages. Already 44 square miles of villages, farms and orchards have been affected.
